The FPD is based on a virtual business model that places a high premium on strategic alliances with national and international partners to increase its access to state-of-the-art training programmes, technology and faculty. Such partnerships have been established with a wide range of academic institutions, technology partners, professional associations and special interest groups.
Current academic partners include: • Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health (USA) • Manchester Business School (UK) • University of Pretoria Accreditation, Registration and Affiliation FPD is registered with the Department of Education as a private institution of higher education under the Higher Education act, 1997, to offer the: • Certificate in Practice Management, • Certificate in Advanced Health Management, • Certificate in Risk Assessment and Management, • Diploma in Risk Assessment and Management, • Diploma in Advanced Health Management and • Post Graduate Diploma in General Practice. (Registration Certificate number 2002/HE07/013). FPD offers a variety of clinical and management short courses for healthcare professionals. The majority of these programmes slot into existing accreditation mechanisms such as the Continued Professional Development Programme of the Health Professions Council of South Africa. All the FPD courses are on National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 5 to 9 - level 5 is in line with a first year tertiary education level. Most of the short courses targeted at health professionals are on NQF level 6-7. FPD is also an institutional member of the South Africa Institute of Healthcare Managers and a member of the Association of Private Providers of Education, Training and Development. FPD Code of Conduct The FPD endorses the principles of non-racialism, non-sexism and non-discrimination. It believes that education should be accessible, affordable and relevant in the South African and African contexts. Students of the FPD are expected to treat fellow students, faculty and administrative staff with dignity and respect. As the FPD offers quality educational products, it believes that its students should act with integrity and honesty when participating in and completing programmes / courses offered by the FPD. By registering for any FPD course or programme a student subscribes to this Code of Conduct. Learning Methodology Combinations of self-study and facilitated face-to-face workshops will be used to enable learners to master the content at their own time, pace and place. There will be a strong emphasis on independent learning through the distance courses as well as the self-study aspect of the combination courses. The workshops will be facilitated in a problem-based and integrated approach through e.g. case studies and role-play. Skills Levy An employer may reclaim up to 70% of the course fee from the relevant SETA, on condition that all the SETA’s requirements have been met. One of these requirements is that the training has been done by an institution accredited with an Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA). According to the law a training provider may be accredited with only one ETQA. This accreditation for the FPD is done with the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC). The HEQC is a standing committee of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) which oversees the quality of teaching and learning at higher education institutions. Student Support Services The FPD maintains a suitable resource centre at its registered head office. Apart from literature associated with its programmes and courses, internet access is also provided. Students receive support required from faculty and facilitators and may request additional assistance from the organisation as required. The FPD website (www.foundation.co.za) offers students assistance through the provision of assessment and assignment guidelines. Course Fees Course fees published in this website apply to unsponsored courses. FPD annually secure sponsorship to the value of R12 million to provide partial or full scholarships to participants on FPD courses. Contact us for more information on sponsored courses. Course fees are negotiable for inhouse or organisational specific training programmes. Course Dates Courses are presented throughout the year and may also be presented on an in-house basis for specific organisations. In-house training dates are arranged in consultation with the relevant organizations.
