Tuberculosis, HIV, AIDS, Treatment Support and Integrated TherapyThis project, in collaboration with the Medical Research Council (MRC), aims to expand the delivery of ART and TB patients in South Africa, using lessons learnt from the best-practice models developed by other MRC partners. Tuberculosis, although curable, is one of the most common causes of HIV-related morbidity and mortality in South Africa and other African countries. Due to lack of awareness and education patients often present very late for help at health care facilities. The diagnosis of TB in association with HIV infection is not always straightforward. The project aims to intensify TB screening in all HIV-positive patients. The service delivery model used in this project is one of a Public-Private-Initiative where public sector TB and ART facilities are strengthened through staff secondment, infra-structure, equipment and operational support. That's it activities are in progress in:
Six ARV clinics within district hospitals in the three provinces are supprted by That's It. 36 surrounding clinics benefit directly from the programme. Four mobile clinics are in commission. Ten park homes have been set up to accommodate patients for infection adherence control purposes.
Dr Magot Uys is the head of That's It.
