Strategic Information

Background:

The Strategic Information (SI) Department is a division of the Technical Assistance Cluster that provides technical assistance in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Health Management Information Systems (HMIS). The SI Departments’ primary activities focus on support SI needs around the HIV epidemic. The department operates at districts level at five Provinces i.e. Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West.

Goal:

To ensure the appropriate implementation and maintenance of a national M&E system, which provides reliable data on

  • the impact of the epidemic
  • the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of program activities
  • the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of program management processes

What we do:

FPD SI department is committed to work with South African government on promoting the implementation of one Monitoring and Evaluation System and One National Strategic Plan.

• Monitor and evaluate the epidemic

• Progressively improving the quality and coverage of service delivery

• Addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic in its social, economic, health and development dimensions, and

• Responding to the special challenges of people living with HIV/AIDS

Objectives:

  1. To support technical and analytical capacity for the Planning and Implementing the M&E frameworks, as well as programme evaluation
  2. To support the District Health Information System (DHIS) and National Department of Health (DoH) with their 3 Tiered ART M&E strategies through formal training and establishment of a cost effective learning platform that builds sustainable capacity at the District level
  3. To assist Districts strengthen management information systems to provide reliable information on the effectiveness and efficiency of HIV-related service provision
  4. To support analysis, research and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned related to implementation of HIV/AIDS service programmes
  5. To provide M&E and HMIS technical assistance at the facility and district levels through a fellowship and mentorship model with an emphasis of integrating evidence-based decision making with routine programme management
  6. To support the integration of the NDoH’s National Core Standards and other quality assurance mechanisms to improve quality of service provision in public sector health facilties
