TB/HIV Integration

FPD supports TB/HIV collaboration activities at all FPD supported districts.

Our Goal:

To ensure the integration of TB and HIV related services in the health management system. This is done in collaboration with the System Strengthening Department, Strategic Information Department Care and Support Department and the Mother and Child Health Unit within the Technical Assistance Cluster at FPD.

What We Do:

The TB/HIV Integration Department has adopted NSP 5 I’s approach to TB/HIV management viz:

  • Intensified case finding
  • Ioniazid Prophylactic Treatment (IPT)
  • Infection control
  • Integrated HIV/TB approach
  • Intensified Treatment

Augmenting these activities are the:

  • Promotion of CT among TB patients
  • Ensuring the appropriate referrals for HIV positive TB patients
  • Promotion of routine TB screening for CT clients testing HIV positive as well as patients following up at ART clinic
  • Ensuring appropriate referrals for HIV positive patients with newly diagnosed TB

Other important technical assistance activities provided by this department are focused on:

  • Improving TB data: A TB register training course is being developed and will be piloted soon
  • IPT: Extensive training has been conducted on IPT in Limpopo and Gauteng
  • Infection control: 1250 HCW’s have been trained on infection control policy development
