Introduction

Facilitation excellence is increasingly being acknowledged as a key success factor within the higher education community. Creating an engaging environment for students requires lecturers to embrace principles of adult learning and to accommodate learning preferences of students. As stated in the National Framework for Enhancing Academics as University Teachers.
“Academics are appointed primarily for the disciplinary expertise and research capacity and it is not reasonable to assume that they will automatically be well-equipped to carry out this task [of a scholarly and professional approach to teaching].”
This short course is designed to develop or update the facilitation skills of lecturers and aspirant lectures through an interactive short course format. We will share best practice teaching techniques drawing on FPD’s 24-years’ experience of providing adult education to more than 550 000 students across 91 countries
