Short Course in the Clinical Management of HIV and AIDS for Healthcare Professionals - Contact Tuition

According to the 90-90-90 UNAIDS Global Strategy, the vision is to eliminate the HIV infection by 2030. Risk of serious AIDS-related events or serious non-AIDS–related events are significantly reduced with earlier ART initiation. This course aims to bring the HIV epidemic under control by targeting the common problems in our Health System, by equipping leaders in our facilities with the knowledge and skills so that it no longer represents a public health threat in any population or country.

Who Should Enrol

All healthcare professionals who need to acquire knowledge on the management of this condition as a matter of urgency.

Course Design

The course consists of 2 parts:

  • A 3-day interactive workshop based on participatory learning methods suitable for adult learners.
  • A self-study component. The comprehensive self-study manual has been developed by leading experts to support learners.

Course Content

To enable participants to acquire or update skills with regard to:

  • 90-90-90 Global Strategy,
  • The diagnosis and management of HIV/AIDS for STIs,
  • All aspects of counselling (pre- and post-test as well as adherence guidelines for HIV, TB & NCDs),
  • Having empathy with people "Living with AIDS",
  • Use of ART in PrEP and UTT,
  • Management of HIV Resistance,
  • Management of HIV in pregnant women and infected children,
  • Fulfil their role as healthcare professionals in community mobilisation,
  • Understand new and/or current vaccine development and clinical trials.


Participants are assessed on the self-study component of the course through means of a multiple-choice questionnaire.


Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 30 CEU’s on Level 2.


To qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should fully attend the workshop as well as successfully complete the assessment process.
