The course is intended to benefit those who need to actively participate work in a project management environment: planning, controlling and managing projects within an organizational business structure. An introduction to project management in the Non-profit organizations (NPO’s) and Public Private Partnerships (PPP’s) domain has been added to assist the project manager within these specified scenarios.

Who Should Enrol

Delegates who attend this course have an understanding of the nine PMBOK areas and/or understand project management processes. They are familiar with basic terminology used in a project environment and have ideally attended a previous project management short course on the fundamentals of project management, actively work in, or envisage to work in a project environment.

Course Design

This Advanced Project Management course is supported with 5 days of full-time study, run in 2 blocks over a 3 month period.

Course Content

  • Understanding of the strategic approach to project selection and management.
  • Confidence in applying project management principles on the job.
  • Able to follow a structured approach- based on the nine PMBOK knowledge areas- towards planning and controlling projects.
  • Understanding the flow of knowledge and the significance of effective knowledge management.
  • Understanding of and the ability to apply project management processes within a systems thinking framework.
  • Ability and confidence to manage projects in a multi-project environment.
  • Awareness of the significance of team building and benefits of managing individual project members and project teams.
  • Understanding and the ability to apply the stakeholder management process.
  • Understanding dynamics of NPO (No-Profit Organisation) and PPP (Public Private Partnership) projects.


The delegate provides two sections of the assignment:

  • First section: Delegates develop project plan, based on a project which relates to their current job function; and at a later stage (to be determined)
  • Second section: Delegates are provided with specific scenarios at a given point later during the project, describing a few typical project challenges. The learner now has to describe how they will act on these challenges aiming to resolve problems in the best interest of the project within control processes.


Accredited, according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 30 Ethical CEUs on level 2.


To qualify for the certificate of completion for this short course, participants should fully attend the workshops as well as successfully complete all forms of assessment.
