Introduction

Breast cancer affects as many as one in eight women during their lifetime and 1 in 10 women globally die of the disease. In the families that it affects it causes immeasurable anxiety, suffering and loss. In many of the regions of the world, it is the most frequently occurring malignant disease in women, placing an enormous drain on healthcare resources, both directly and indirectly. The burden of breast cancer worldwide in both developed and developing countries is increasing and evidence suggests that unless action is taken it will continue to grow for the foreseeable future.

Effective countermeasures directed towards primary prevention, early diagnosis and therapy need to be identified and implemented to prevent the disease reaching epidemic proportions. This course will provide the professional with the latest cutting-edge information with regards breast cancer, equipping them with knowledge to diagnose breast cancer early, thereby reducing the mortality rate, as well as the cost of treatment.

  • Have an understanding of the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis on the patient
