Introduction

Noise-Induced Hearing Loss is one of the most preventable occupational diseases. With regular screening and testing, deviances can be early identi?ed and acted upon. A quali?ed Audiometrist must perform the hearing testing.

The FPD Audiometry testing course prepares the Audiometrist for the challenges of testing and screening.

The course complies with the SAQA unit standard: 252126 written for the performance of an audiometric screening test in the occupational setting. Successful completion will enable the candidate to register as an Audiometrist.

Who Should Enroll?

Healthcare professionals/workers conducting audiometric testing in the occupational setting.

Course Design

3-day Interactive workshop with lectures and practical exercises.

Theory and practical assessments.

Portfolio of Evidence to be submitted.

Course Content

  • Basic anatomy and physiology of hearing
  • Ensuring equipment meets established standards
  • Preparing a client for an audiometric examination
  • Conduct a manual and automatic test
  • Interpret, evaluate, record and report test results
  • How to respond to a formal patient complaint and the importance of documentation in protecting against

Accreditation

Accredited according to the HPCSA CPD Guidelines for Health Professionals - for a total of 21 clinical points on Level 2.

Certification

To qualify for the certi?cate of competence, participants should fully attend the workshop, complete the theoretical and practical assessment and successfully complete a Portfolio of Evidence.

Admission Requirements

A matric / grade 12 certi?cate or equivalent quali?cation.

Access to a clinic or facility to complete Portfolio of Evidence.
