Responding to HIV and AIDS is one of the most important tasks in South Africa, which is why the prevention of new HIV infections and treatment and care of HIV-infected people are one of the South African government’s top priorities. It is critical to identify HIV infection in people before they develop an AIDS defining disease. And if HIV positive, on-going counselling becomes the mandatory cornerstone in the long- term medical management of HIV/AIDS. Advanced – level HIV/AIDS counselling and testing has become a healthcare discipline. A healthcare provider C&T skill plays an integral and continuous role in the HIV/ AIDS medical management team.
