FPD’s Community Based Counselling and Testing (CBCT), a 5 year programme funded by USAID/PEPFAR with FPD as the main recipient, officially launched at the 7th SAAIDS conference in Durban on June 9th 2015.
Dr. G. Wolvaardt, FPD Managing Director hosted the event, with the U.S. Ambassador Patrick H. Gaspard delivering the Key Note address.
Various dignitaries from USAID, PEPFAR, CDC and the National Department of Health attended the event.
Mr. Gaspard delivered a motivating address, highlighting the important work done in the HIV field and the success achieved in South Africa.
The ambassador pointed out that the fight is far from over and that the U.S.A. will remain committed to its goals in South Africa.
After the main event, Mr. Gaspard visited the FPD CBCT mobile units, officially declaring the CBCT programme operational by cutting a ceremonial ribbon.
The ambassador then spent time with the FPD mobile units staff discussing the important role they are playing in HIV prevention and testing.
