ASAP

The Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) participated in USAID’s Accelerating Support to Advanced Local Partners (ASAP) project, an initiative designed to strengthen the capacity of local organizations across Sub-Saharan Africa to manage and implement donor-funded health programs. Through this partnership, FPD helped prepare local partners to serve as prime implementers for USAID and PEPFAR activities by improving their governance, financial management, compliance, and organisational systems.

As part of the project, FPD facilitated widespread peer-learning across the region through Communities of Practice (CoPs) delivered in English, French, and Portuguese. Over the duration of the project, more than 57 CoP meetings were held, creating a collaborative learning platform for organizations to exchange practical experiences and strengthen their technical capabilities. In one reporting period alone, CoPs engaged 235 participants from 121 organisations across 17 countries, reflecting growing demand for capacity-building support—particularly among Francophone partners.

In addition to CoPs, FPD and consortium partners such as Sustainable Solutions and DAI/Deloitte provided specialized training covering leadership, audit readiness, internal controls, financial compliance, risk management, and public financial management. Altogether, the ASAP project reached over 2,250 participants from more than 36 countries, enhancing the ability of local partners to meet donor requirements and sustain high-quality program implementation.

Through these collective efforts, the ASAP project significantly strengthened local organisational capacity across the region—supporting more sustainable, accountable, and resilient institutions positioned to lead impactful health programs.
