Introduction
Welcome to disaster management and emergency planning. This short
course addresses the concepts and processes of emergency planning and
management of disasters within a developing world context.
Disasters are a serious disruption of the environment and impact severely
on affected communities. Communities must cope by using the resources
available. The impact is also very severe for vulnerable people who also do
not have the infrastructure or means to cope with the disaster. Disaster
management is the way to deal with and address the risks and
environmental impacts of the disaster.
By the end of this course, students will be able to assess the hazards and
address them to help reduce the risks of a disaster occurring.

Participants are required to successfully complete the five online
multiple-choice assessments and a final assignment and obtain a pass
