Introduction
Universal health care (National Health Insurance) is key to supporting
sustainable development. The International public health series of short courses
are designed to develop the key competencies of professionals, policymakers,
and managers across all industries supporting the improvement of health
outcomes.
Public Health Informatics has been defined as: "the application of informatics in
areas of public health, including surveillance, prevention, preparedness, and
health promotion.” (American Medical Informatics Association).
The health sector needs to play a central role in addressing climate
change--the greatest health threat of the 21st century.
This course aims to provide strategic direction and promote public health
practice by focusing on prevention, Health, Climate Change, and Global
Health Informatics.
Assessment
Participants are assessed on the self-study component of each course through
means of a multiple-choice questionnaire.
Course Content
The FPD CPD/CME online education package consists of 4 short courses which
include:
Public Health: Provides basic introduction to key aspects of the discipline of
public health.
Prevention: Provides basic introduction to key aspects of the prevention of ill
health.
Climate Change and Public Health: Provides the Public Health aspects of
climate change and its impact on populations.
Global Health Informatics: Provides a framework and some resources to help
those in low resource settings meet their knowledge needs.
Course Design
This is an on-line CPD/CME package and materials are presented in the form of
video tuition and reading materials. Participants have access to all available
courses for a 12-month period from the date of enrolment for the package.
