Introduction
Public Health Economics is the science and art of supporting decisionmaking
as to how society can use its available resources. One main task of
health economists is to conduct economic and impact analyses of health
issues, health care interventions, and health policies. This course addresses
the public policies and best practices in areas such as development,
demography, epidemiology, household finance and behaviour,
cost/effectiveness of treatments, financing modes, health system
organization, and comparative country studies.
By the end of this course, students will be able to understand how
healthcare is organized and financed, how healthcare consumers make
choices, how different treatments and services can be evaluated and
prioritized, and how health systems can best cope with challenges.
