Introduction

Healthcare is a growing sector globally and despite economic challenges on the African continent, many experts expect a substantial increase in the number of jobs in the sector. With this predicted increase as well as changing and emerging disease patterns, healthcare leaders are faced with a difficult landscape to navigate.
Knowledge of all the moving parts in a health system and an approach to practically innovate is critical to optimise your success as a leader and the success of the system. Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) has partnered with the prestigious and pragmatic Yale School of Public Health (Yale) to provide you access to the AHMP.
This course is unique in that it offers a sound theoretical basis covering key areas in healthcare delivery as well as a cutting-edge methodology for research in the workplace which will culminate in a portfolio of evidence to support your future endeavours.

Duration

Participants are required to complete this programme within year.

Certification

This is a certificate that is co-certified by Yale/FPD. Participants who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Yale/FPD Advanced Health Management Certificate.

Assessment

  • Ten (10) formative assessment test - self-study multiple choice question (MCQs) assessments.
  • Six (6) summative modular assessments (individual assignments) in form of work-related assignments, including a Yale overarching assessment.
  • In addition to this, you will prepare one (1) action research proposal (Summative Exam Assessment Part 1) that will guide the project you need to implement over the duration of your studies.
  • Your summative exam assessment Part 2 will be in the form of an assessment of the Portfolio of Evidence (POE) you will complete to demonstrate how you have implemented your action research project

Course Design

The AHMP is designed to give participants a holistic perspective so that they can address the complex, unstructured challenges of management in a changing healthcare environment with confidence. Each module is supported by customised workbooks that incorporate key concepts, activities, case studies, readings and “think points”.
The programme consists of the following learning components:

  • Distance e-learning (self-study) modules,
  • Twelve (12) Assisted virtual tutorial sessions, and
  • Various assessment tasks.

Exit Level Outcomes

On achieving this qualification, a learner will be able to:

  • Apply fundamental management principles in a work-based context.
  • Apply quantitative methodologies in making work-based decisions.
  • Utilise technology to communicate effectively (Across all modules and programme design).
  • Conduct action research.
  • Solve marketing problems.
  • Interpret financial statements and develop a budget.
  • Manage information in a business context.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of the healthcare business environment.

Who Should Enrol

All senior and mid-level healthcare managers including executives who want to differentiate themselves by being effective in their roles and optimise their performance and that of their teams and the system.

Admission Requirements

Health related degree or equivalent qualification with health sector management experience OR substantial management experience in the health sector. Any person with a leadership role may also submit an application.

Applicants are required to submit the following documentation and pay a R350.00 non-refundable application fee in order for the application to be processed:

  • Completed application form.
  • Certified copy of South African Identity Document (South African residents only) / official Passport (Foreign Students).
  • Certified copy of highest Qualification Certificate and any other Certification required as proof of meeting minimum entry requirements for this programme.
  • Proof of payment of non-refundable application fee of R350.00
  • SAQA and USAF verification as required for verification of recognition of foreign qualifications.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) form for access and/or Credit Allocation Transfer (CAT), if applicable.

The following supporting documentation must be included if you are applying for CAT:

  • Certified academic transcript(s) of training from a previous educational institution or FPD at same NQF Level.
  • Study guide that supports the credit claim at same NQF Level.

The following supporting documentation must be included if you are applying for RPL:

  • Testimonials/reference letter from previous or current employers.
  • Portfolio of Evidence that is evident of your work experience and skills equivalent to a NQF Level.
  • Full curriculum vitae indicating employment history and work experience in relevant field.
  • Portfolio of evidence of research project (if applicable).

*Certified documents should be certified by a Commissioner of Oaths. A stamp by your academic institution is not sufficient.

A student’s academic progression commences once all conditions of enrolment and the admissions criteria for the selected qualification have been met. Where a student applies for RPL/CAT, and with the approval of the Selection Committee and the Registrar, he/she can gain entry to the qualification.
