ave you ever wondered how some organisations (or people) manage to have one amazing success after another? Well, the secret is having the creative mind-set, which is a growth mind-set orientated towards creating values.

The novels strive for growth and providing value by creating solutions for their organisations; as well as creating new values by providing useful information to the society which they didn’t even know they needed. This article tells the story of an FPD unique employee, Sonny Ncube. As a professional nurse in the Nkangala District, Sonny Ncube has taken it upon himself to lead the District and FPD partnership action research topic: improving the follow-up process of young men after Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) in Simunye Clinic in Nkangala District.

Sonny’s efforts has helped us to develop a stronger partnership with the District and also the opportunity to present FPD at the recent PHASA Conference. The action research in itself is unique and not explored in the past. He continues to lead the programme in partnership with the District and New Start organisation.

Sonny was given the FPD award for excellence in community engagement which is awarded annually to the employee who has made the most significant contribution towards FPD’s community engagement. This came as a surprise to him and he believes that his colleagues also did an excellent job in contributing towards community upliftment. “This award inspires me to work harder in developing the community and to also assist my colleagues in achieving more than I did.”

Sonny has his team in Nkangala to thank for supporting his work and FPD management for giving him an opportunity to grow. He also appreciates the support of his family for allowing him to spend their time working on his project.
