Nursing School

The Foundation of Professional Development (FPD) is registered as a private higher education institution in terms of Section 54(1)(c) of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997), and Regulation 16(4)(a) of the Regulations for the Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2002 (registration certificate number 2002/HE07/013). FPD offers programmes, which are approved by the Registrar in terms of section 53(1) (b) of the Act and Regulation 22(c).

FPD School of Nursing overall aim is to prepare nurses to meet the dynamic health needs of the South African community through the developing of clinical knowledge and practical skills of nursing students and practitioner through innovation, sound educational principles and evidence based practice. FPD School of Nursing aims to positively impact the health environment of South Africa. The School is committed to professionalism, caring for the needs of people, improving the healthcare quality and patient safe.

The FPD School of Nursing is in the process of accreditation to the Council of Higher Education (CHE) and the South African Nursing Council (SANC) to offer the following undergraduate courses:

  • Three year Diploma in Nursing
  • Four year Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Midwifery
  • Short courses for Continuous Professional Development

In future FPD will also offer post-graduate courses in nursing.

Education is rendered in association with private and governmental health care facilities, where facilities exposes learners to the various aspects of the health sector.


FPD is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a Private Higher Education institute in terms of section 54(1)(c) of the act and regulation 16(4)(a). Our registration certificate number is 2002/HE07/013. All our teaching and learning programmes are designed to be cutting edge customised education that meets the specific needs of our students. Such programmes are developed within the regulatory requirements of the Department of Higher Education and Training, Council on Higher Education and the South African Qualifications Authority. The majority of our clinical programmes also slot into existing accreditation mechanisms such as the Continued Professional Development Programme of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

Our courses are pitched at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 5 to 8. We are also an institutional member of the South Africa Institute of Healthcare Managers and a member of the Association of Private Providers of Education, Training and Development.
