Introduction

Management and leadership is a calling and a professional career path. Yet, if you are promoted into a management role or want to pursue this role very few qualifications prepare you for this. This gap could be preventing you from either landing a job, gaining that promotion or excelling in your current role.
The most relevant management subjects have been weaved together to form a solid educational foundation for the emerging manager. Through examining a range of management concepts, students discover winning techniques that improve their ability to manage in an ever-changing world. Students that enrol in this programme are exposed to complex business environments and are challenged to think differently through self-assessment and reflection.
FPD's approach is to combine excellent theory and personal experience which results in a management programme that is inspiring and practical.

Assessment

The programme includes the following assessment opportunities:

  • Twenty-one (21) formative assessment - online multiple-choice question (MCQs) test.
  • Four (4) summative modular assessments (individual assignments) in form of work-related assignments.
  • Four (4) exams which will be in the form of a summative assessments that will require a practical application of the knowledge gained from each module as well as one (1) online examination in the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire

Course Content

This programme consists of the following modules with subsequent study units:

  1. Digital Literacy
  2. Managing Self
  3. Managing Others
  4. Managing the Organization
  5. Managing Stakeholders

Course Design

This course is based on the adult education approach, which means that delegates will need to take full responsibility for their learning.
The programme consists of the following learning components:

  • Distance e-learning (self-study) modules,
  • Various assessment tasks.

Exit Level Outcomes

On achieving this qualification, a learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic computer literacy.
  • Develop a self-management plan that encompasses good time management and presenting oneself professionally in a business context.
  • Apply effective group, team management and leadership skills.
  • Describe business operations and how they contribute to business success.
  • Produce a project plan and apply project management principles.
  • Communicate effectively to business stakeholders.
  • Apply marketing techniques to perform effective marketing.
  • Discuss key business financial documents and describe the financial performance of a business.
  • Apply laws governing human resources management

Who Should Enrol

The HCert (Management) is targeted at:

  • Young managers with potential, first line managers, supervisors, team leaders and other candidates who require management development.
  • Graduate trainees (University and Technical) and succession planning nominees.
  • Grade 12 graduates who have just completed their secondary education and are in need of developing a broad range of managerial skills that will equip them for the world of work.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirement is a Grade 12 National Senior Certificate OR an NQF Level 4 qualification.

Applicants are required to submit the following documentation and pay a R350.00 non-refundable application fee in order for the application to be processed:

  • Completed application form.
  • Certified copy of South African Identity Document (South African residents only) / official Passport (Foreign Students).
  • Certified copy of highest Qualification Certificate and any other Certification required as proof of meeting minimum entry requirements for this programme.
  • Proof of payment of non-refundable application fee of R350.00
  • SAQA and USAF verification as required for verification of recognition of foreign qualifications.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) form for access and/or Credit Allocation Transfer (CAT), if applicable.

The following supporting documentation must be included if you are applying for CAT:

  • Certified academic transcript(s) of training from a previous educational institution or FPD at same NQF Level.
  • Study guide that supports the credit claim at same NQF Level.

The following supporting documentation must be included if you are applying for RPL:

  • Testimonials/reference letter from previous or current employers.
  • Portfolio of Evidence that is evident of your work experience and skills equivalent to a NQF Level.
  • Full curriculum vitae indicating employment history and work experience in relevant field.
  • Portfolio of evidence of research project (if applicable).

*Certified documents should be certified by a Commissioner of Oaths. A stamp by your academic institution is not sufficient.

A student’s academic progression commences once all conditions of enrolment and the admissions criteria for the selected qualification have been met. Where a student applies for RPL/CAT, and with the approval of the Selection Committee and the Registrar, he/she can gain entry to the qualification.
